Alleged gang rape of Brazilian blogger in India sparks outrage

The alleged gang rape of a tourist and blogger of Brazilian-Spanish mixed nationality, Fernanda in the eastern Indian state of Jharkhand has sparked public outrage. Fernanda and her husband Vicente were on a motorcycle tour when the alleged gang rape incident of a Brazilian blogger happened.

The gang stopped them at night in the Dumka area. According to the victim couple, the gang members raped Fernanda and beat her husband Vicente. Fernanda uploaded a video to her Instagram account profile with 234,000 followers.

Fernanda claimed seven men raped her. They beat them and robbed them, but they did not take much since they wanted to rape her. Moreover, the gang members thrashed them and threatened them with murder. She stated in Spanish.

In a separate video, the spouse Vicente, stated his mouth is destroyed, but his partner is worse than him. They repeatedly beat him with a helmet and a stone on the head. However, the uploaded videos by the couple are no longer available on their webpage.

Meanwhile, Indian police have claimed that they have arrested four suspects and are searching for three more. However, they have not identified the identities of the arrested men.

Police superintendent of Dumka, Pitamber Singh Kherwar, told media reporters they found the injured couple and shifted them in a patrol van to a local health clinic for treatment.

According to Pitamber, the couple spoke a mix of English and Spanish, so the patrolling police could not understand them well. But they appeared to be hurt, so patrolling police brought them for care. Later, the couple notified doctors about the alleged rape incident.

Meanwhile, the Brazilian embassy in India stated the woman and her husband were victims of a serious criminal attack. The embassy said it had approached the victimized woman, local authorities, and the Spanish embassy regarding the incident because the couple used Spanish passports to enter India.
