Donald Trump becomes 1st ex-US President to be convicted
Donald Trump becomes 1st ex-US President to be convicted by New York jury on 34 charges in hush money case trial. This conviction came months before an election that might see him win back the White House.
A New York jury has convicted him on 34 charges of manipulating business records to hide a payment intended to silence porn star Stormy Daniels. This verdict is related to Donald Trump and the Stormy Daniels scandal.
This scandal involves a night sexual encounter between Donald Trump and Daniels. Porn star Daniels claimed she had sex with a former president. Donald paid her $130,000 to remain silent about their one-night stand.
Hence, Donald Trump becomes 1st ex-US President to be guilty in a hush money trial case. However, there are also claims that Donald Trump may also face four-year imprisonment for his conviction.
It is significant to note that Judge Juan Merchan scheduled the sentencing for Donald Trump on July 11, 2024. It will be four days before the Republican National Convention. Donald Trump will accept the party’s official nomination for presidential elections in this convention.
Judge Juan Merchan was presiding over this historic money hush trial case. New York State Supreme Court found Donald Trump guilty.
This is a shocking and first historic verdict against a former president. This is because Donald Trump is considered the most powerful man in the world. On the other hand, Donald Trump is free to carry on with his campaign to remove President Joe Biden even in the expected event that he may go to prison.
Convicted Donald Trump defended himself against the verdict while talking to media reporters. He said he was an innocent man and promised that a real verdict would come from the people on Nov 5, 2024 (election day). He also described this trial as “rigged” and “disgrace.”
However, his rival and current US President Joe Biden stated no one is above the law while responding to this trial verdict. It also stated Donald Trump represents a threat to their democracy that has never been greater.
