Violent clashes erupted at Israeli embassy protest in Mexico

Violent clashes erupted at the Israeli embassy in Mexico while holding a protest against Rafah’s attack by Israel. As a result of this protest, six cops suffered injuries.

The video footage showed protestors throwing objects at the riot-clothed police officers who were holding shields to protect themselves. Around 200 people participated in the “Urgent Action for Rafah” protest.

According to the media reports, the violent clashes erupted outside the Israeli embassy when protestors tried to tear down the barrier. Afterward, police used tear gas and threw back stones that protestors were throwing.

This protest came after an Israeli attack that destroyed a camp for refugees in Rafah. Rafah is the southern city of the Gaza Strip. Israel launched the deadliest airstrike on the Rafah refuge camp. Hundreds of thousands of people were seeking protection there from the Israeli-Hamas conflict.

Thousands of protestors also gathered outside the Israeli embassy in Istanbul on May 27, 2024 night. They also set fire to the area surrounding the embassy while burning Molotov cocktails in protest against the Israeli attack on Gaza.

Hence, Israel has gained international fury after its fatal and inhumane target of Rafah refugees. The Israeli attack resulted in the deaths of 53 Palestinians and 357 injured people.

Israel launched this strike after world leaders and international humanitarian organizations, including the United Nations, warned it not to target civilians in Rafah. They organized an attack on Rafah on May 26, 2024.

However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called this strike “tragic”. He said Israel would launch an investigation, and the Israeli military would take lessons from this incident.

Mexico also filed an intervention declaration before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) on May 28, 2024, against Israel. It accused Israel of “genocide” in South Africa’s case. South Africa filed a lawsuit against Israel in ICJ in December 2023.
