US Airforce man set himself on fire outside the Israeli Embassy
An airforce man from the United States set himself on fire outside the Israeli Embassy in Washington D.C, US. This tragic incident took place around 13:00 local time (18:00 GMT).
The United States Secret Service officers put down the flames surrounding the man. Afterward, they transported the victim to the hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries.
A US Air Force spokesperson later told media that the man who set himself on fire was an active-duty airforce member. The Washington Police Department is investigating alongside the Secret Service and other relevant agencies.
The police in the US capital released a statement and claimed the event happened near the 3500 block of International Drive, NW. However, the official authorities have kept the identity of the man hidden.
The man committed this act in the wake of the brutal Gaza genocide at the hands of Israeli forces. The Air Force man live-streamed himself on Twitch before putting himself on fire.
He stated he would play his part in the Gaza genocide. Later, he lit himself on fire while yelling “Free Palestine.” According to the police, the man used petrol to burn himself and was holding a Palestinian flag. However, the US authorities have removed the footage of this incident from Twitch.
A bomb disposal squad was dispatched to the scene due to concerns about a suspicious vehicle that may have been linked to the suspect. This was later confirmed safe because no hazardous items were discovered. This incident did not result in any injuries to embassy personnel.
According to a statement from the Israeli foreign ministry, the individual was unknown to embassy workers. However, this is not the first time someone has self-immolated in front of an Israeli embassy in the United States. A protestor set fire to himself in front of the Israeli embassy in Georgia, the United States last year.
