Footballer Luise Diaz begs his father’s kidnappers to free him
Liverpool footballer Luise Diaz begs his father’s kidnappers to free him immediately to “end this painful wait”. The left-wing guerrillas of the National Liberation Army (ELN) kidnapped at gunpoint both of his parents on October 28, 2023.
The National Liberation Army (Ejército de Liberación Nacional – ELN) is one of Colombia’s two major guerrilla forces with left-wing political ideology. Originally It was a Marxist-Leninist nationalist movement.
ELN currently appears to be primarily focused on kidnapping, extortion, and economic infrastructure attacks. They targeted the parents of Luise this time while his mother was found but his father is still missing. So, Luise has begged the kidnappers of his father to release him as he is suffering from a painful wait.
CCTV footage from the day of the kidnapping attack showed Daz’s parents’ car being followed by men on motorcycles. As police moved in, the kidnappers abandoned Luis Daz’s mother in a car but dragged away his father.

Luise Diaz Dedicates Goal to Father hopes for his Safe Return
Luise scored a goal for Liverpool against the Luton team removing his shirt to expose the words “freedom for Papa” in Spanish words during the match. He dedicated the goal to his father. After the match in England’s Premier League, Diaz said in a statement our concern builds by the second, by the minute.
Luise said that my mother, brothers, and I are desperate and anxious, with no words to express how we feel. This agony will only end when we bring him home.
He added saying I ask them (kidnappers) to release him immediately, honoring his integrity and putting an end to this agonizing wait. In the spirit of love and compassion, we urge that they reconsider their actions and return him to us.
DAZ also praised Colombians and the world community for their support, as well as the numerous displays of compassion and solidarity in this difficult time.
