Congo virus outbreak in Balochistan triggers health emergency

Congo virus outbreak in Baluchistan as the number of cases has increased to a significant amount which triggers the Balochistan government to impose a health emergency in the province.

Chief Minister of Balochistan Ali Mardan Domki declared an emergency response to the Congo virus outbreak in Quetta during today’s meeting. The government has made this decision to ensure the safety of children. It is also launching a public awareness campaign to protect the youngest members of the province. In this regard, authorities have issued Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for hospitals and medical facilities.

The authorities gave a briefing to the Balochistan CM that the cases of the Congo virus have reached 44 and eight people have died due to this deadly virus. Healthcare workers are greatly affected by the Congo virus. At least 16 healthcare professionals have tested positive for Congo which is a great alarming sign for the province administration.

Congo virus outbreak in Baluchistan triggers health emergency

The interim CM asked the Livestock Department to begin spraying disinfectants in livestock markets around the province immediately. All Divisional Commissioners and Livestock Officers should keep a close eye on the situation in this regard. They agreed to impose a prohibition under Section 144.

The Balochistan government said that Dr Shukrullah Jan will be granted all benefits as a martyr who died due to the virus.

The Harnai patient initially spread this virus transferred to a public hospital in Quetta on October 22. He became positive for Congo on October 25.

Authorities also informed 112 people, including staff and inpatients during the meeting. They took samples from the contaminated ward of the civil hospital. This year, the number of people killed by this virus has risen to 18.
