Elon Musk unveiled Grok AI chatbot to compete with ChatGPT

The globally famous businessman Elon Musk unveiled yesterday his own artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot “Grok” to compete with ChatGPT.

Elon stated that the Grok prototype is already superior to ChatGPT 3.5 across a variety of metrics. Grok is the first product of Elon which the company is now testing with a limited number of users in the United States.

According to the company’s website announcement, Grok is being built with data from Musk’s X, formerly Twitter. Thus it is more up-to-date on the current advances than alternative bots with static datasets. Grok is also designed to answer “with a bit of humor” as it has a rebellious streak.

Why did Elon sign up for a pause in AI model advancement?

Elon was one of the signatories to a petition earlier this year calling for a pause in the advancement of AI models to allow for the creation of shared safety protocols. He said that he signed the letter knowing it was pointless. He just wanted to go on record as recommending a pause.

Tech leaders and academics addressed the risks of technology last week at the UK’s AI Safety Summit. Afterward, the U.S. President recently issued an executive order for AI oversight aimed at establishing standards for security and privacy protections.

Tesla owners claim that Grok will be an unbiased AI tool that will generate maximized truth-seeking answers. Tesla is a multinational American automotive and clean energy company based in Texas. Elon Musk is the founder and CEO of Tesla.

Grok is the result of two months of development and will be available to all X Premium+ users after it completes testing.

Musk has stated his desire to expand X beyond its current status as a social network into a do-everything app similar to Tencent Holding Ltd.’s WeChat in China.

Grok would be an important part of that development while xAI is a separate company that plans to collaborate closely with X, Tesla, and other companies.
