Labour MP Peta Murphy passed away aged 50
Federal Labour Member of Parliament (MP) Peta Murphy has passed away aged 50 after a long fight with cancer. Peta was a member of Dunkley which is an Australian electoral division in the state of Victoria.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirmed the news of her death in a sad press conference while weeping in Canberra. He said she died peacefully at home as she wished for.
Australian politicians mourn the death of Peta Murphy
The death of Peta has left the members of the Labour Party in grief. Anthony described Peta through tears as the most powerful of local members, the most inspiring of colleagues, and the best kind of friend. Peta was exceptional in so many ways. She was never alone, however, as someone who inspired such compassion and respect in the hearts of so many.
Foreign Minister Penny Wong sobbed in the Senate as she delivered an emotional speech about the loss of Labor MP Peta Murphy. She said I regret to tell the Senate that the Prime Minister recently announced the passing of our valued colleague Peta Murphy.
Treasurer Minister Jim Chalmers expressed his condolences saying It’s difficult to put into words how lovely Peta Murphy was. She was an absolute gem of a person, so kind and caring, so fun and so genuine. Her death has brought with it a great deal of sadness. My heart goes out to Rod (Peta’s husband), her family, and her community.
According to Nationals leader David Littleproud, Peta’s death has left the party deeply heartbroken. In her health fight, the Member for Dunkley was bold, motivating, and courageous, and she never wavered in her devotion to Parliament and the community.
Rod Glover was married to Peta Murphy for 24 years. Rod was with Peta along with her parents and her sisters. He said every one of us in the Labor family is brokenhearted.
Peta Murphy was a 50-year-old Australian politician who served as a member of the Representatives from 2019 until 2023. She was the representation the seat of Dunkley for the Australian Labour Party.
