Indian politician Sashi Tharoor received highest France civilian honor
A prolific writer and Indian politician Sashi Tharoor has received the highest civilian honor of France, “Chevalier de la Legion d’honneur.” He is the author of multiple books and a diplomat-turned-politician.
Sashi is a member of Parliament from the Congress Party and hailed from Thiruvananthapuram. He received the desired honor at the French Embassy from French Senate President Gerard Larcher.
The French government announced the prize for Indian politician Sashi Tharoor in Aug 2022. But they gave this award to him on Feb 20, 2024.
According to a press release released by the French Embassy, the highest French civilian award came in recognition of the tireless efforts of Sashi to deepen Indo-French ties. Moreover, this award owes him due to his commitment to international peace and cooperation and his long-standing friendship with France.
Chairman Gerard bestowed the honor on Sashi. He said through his outstanding career as a diplomat, author, and politician, Sashi has embraced the world with a thirst for knowledge. Hence, his intelligence has led him to live several lifetimes in service to India and a better world.
Furthermore, Gerard stated Dr. Sashi Tharoor is a true friend of France. He is a Francophone with a deep understanding of the country and its culture. A Francophone is a French-speaking person.
The French Republic recognizes his accomplishments, friendship, love of France, and commitment to a fairer world with this award. Gerard also felt honored to present this award to Sashi.
However, Sashi Tharoor expressed tremendous gratitude for the Chevalier de la Legion d’honneur award. He also stated that receiving this award as an Indian acknowledges the deepening Franco-Indian relations. The continuity of the warmth has been a feature of this relationship for a long time.
Moreover, Sashi said this honor, in some ways, is more than just a celebration of individual achievement. It also shows the collective efforts of both countries in establishing cultural exchange and diplomatic ties.
