Gunmen killed Kwara ruler Oba Segun and abducted his wife

The gunmen attacked Koro town and killed the monarch ruler, Oba Segun Aremu-Cole, in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State. Oba Segun was a retired general from the Nigerian Army.

The unknown gunmen brutally killed the Kwara ruler Oba Segun on Feb 1, 2024, last night. According to reports, the gunmen broke into the monarch’s palace (Koro Ekiti) at about 7:00 p.m. and opened fire at ruler Oba.

Despite the assassination of ruler Oba Segun, the unknown gunmen also took off his wife and two other people from the palace. Meanwhile, the state governor, Abdul Rahman Abdul Razzaq, condemned this incident.

Governor’s chief secretary Rafiu Ajakaye released a statement on behalf of Abdul Rahman. It stated unknown gunmen shot the monarch Oba Segun in his palace. They also kidnapped his wife and two other people.

Furthermore, the governor denounced this tragic development and called it awful, shocking, and reckless murder. He also instructed the security services to use all available means to find the culprits and release the spouse of the deceased ruler.

Rafiu further stated that they will get the offenders and ensure this is their last crime against humanity. The governor also sends his sincere sympathies to the Koro community. Their hearts are broken. They stand by them now and forever.

However, the Kwara state Commissioner, Victor Olaiya, had not yet responded to inquiries regarding this incident. Koro Ekiti Palace shares boundaries with the historic town of Egbe. It is in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State in Nigeria. Monarch rulers have been attacked by gunmen.

This occurred just a few days after gunmen assassinated two monarch rulers in Ekiti State. The assassinated rulers are Oba Olatunde Samuel Olusola and Oba David Babatunde Ogunsola.

Gunmen also attacked Oba Olatunde in the Oye Local Government Area and Oba David in the Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State. They both were traditional rulers of Ekiti state.
