A major change to come at Sydney beaches after shark attacks
A major change has to come at two popular Sydney beaches, Little Bay and Malabar after increasing incidents due to fatal shark attacks and drownings.
The Sydney Council has announced that lifeguards will patrol two busy beaches for the first time this summer because there has been a consistent rise in near-drownings and casualties including the deadliest shark attack.
Randwick City Council on Beach Lifeguards
This major change is the result of several deadly events. It includes the first horror shark attack in Sydney in sixty years. According to a statement from Randwick City Council, the eastern suburbs of Sydney will have lifeguards at Malabar Beach and Little Bay Beach for the first time since 2004.
Randwick Council has hired 10 part-time and 4 more full-time lifeguards on Friday to safeguard beachgoers at the well-liked swimming beaches. The change is the result of several near-drownings and mishaps. It included the most recent deadly shark attack in Little Bay, Sydney.
Millions of Sydneysiders visit the beaches of Randwick, Coogee, and Clovelly every season. Yet the council only used to patrol these areas’ beaches.
Randwick City Council Lifeguards Brad Rope and Luke Twitchings uploaded a video on the council’s Facebook page. Mr. Brad said he just wanted to let you know that we’re starting a service at Malabar and Little Bay this summer.
According to Mr. Luke, this change is due to “increasing numbers across the beaches”. And the need for lifeguards to respond to many incidents that occurred there.
The man’s remains were subsequently discovered as witnesses gasped in shock. It was Sydney’s first deadly shark attack in nearly 60 years.
Randwick Mayor Philipa Veitch expects five million people to visit the beaches this summer due to the hot and dry weather forecast.
Mayor Philipa said we want to take every precaution to lessen the possibility that a day at the beach may end tragically. By growing our Lifeguard offerings, we will be able to respond faster to an increase in staff.
