Indian-American motel manager punched to death in Oklahoma

Indian-American motel manager Hemant Mistry was punched to death by suspect Richard Lewis in Oklahoma, United States. Hemant was a 59-year-old man.

A video captured this incident, showing Richard punching Hemant before falling to the ground. In the CCTV footage, Richard approached Hemant. A heated argument happened between them.

Meanwhile, Hemant asked Richard to leave the property. Instead, Richard, the 41-year-old gave Hemant a legal punch to the face. It left him unconscious and he fell to the ground on his back.

However, suspect Richard took one of the buckets probably lying outside the home of Hemant, and left the victim there. As a result of this incident, someone rushed Hemant to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. But, he could not survive his injuries and passed away.

Following this incident, police responded and initiated a legal investigation to catch the suspect involved in the killing of Hemant.

According to media reports, Indian-American motel manager Hemant was an Indian state resident of Gujarat who was punched to death.

The Oklahoma City Police Department reports that this incident happened at 10:00 p.m. They arrived at the incident place as a result of the attack on Hemant. They found Hemant in an unconscious state.

However, Oklahoma Police arrested Richard at a hotel in the 1900 block of S. Meridian Avenue. They charged him with severe assault and a penalty of $100,000.

Richard is currently serving a prison term at the Oklahoma County Jail. According to Oklahoma Police, they are investigating the motives behind Hemant’s request for Richard to leave the property remains unclear.

Before this incident, an Indian laborer based in Italy died due to not immediate care following his cut arm on June 20, 2024. A slicing machine cut off his arm while he was doing work. However, his employer abandoned him after the accident instead of providing immediate care.
