Google spokesperson told Search Engine Lab they have decided to end continuous and limitless scrolling on search engine results. It means Google Search will no longer load further results when you navigate past the first page of search results, a feature known as continuous scrolling.

According to the spokesperson, the continuous scroll feature has been removed from desktop search results since June 25. Google introduced continuous scroll for mobile searches in October 2021 and desktop in December 2022. Therefore, continuous scrolling for desktop search only lasted roughly a year and a half.

Google considers this move will enable the search engine giant to provide search results more quickly for a greater number of queries than automatically loading results that users have not specifically asked for.

Moreover, Google revealed that its research showed no appreciable increase in user satisfaction with Google Search due to loading more searches automatically.

However, Google will end continuous scrolling for mobile searches in the upcoming month. It will show a bar with numbered pages at the bottom of search results on the desktop. Users can click on a specific page number or button “Next” to see more results.

On the other hand, there will be a “More results” button at the bottom of the search results to load more results. This Google update may impact search results for your website.

For example, if your website is on the second page of search results, fewer people are likely to visit it. Because not many people scroll down and click on the “Next” button to see more results.

As a result, the data in your Search Console might shower fewer clicks and visits as it depends on how many people go beyond the first page of search results.
