PCB to cancel central contracts of players after T-20 World Cup exit
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to review and cancel the central contracts of players following their elimination from the T-20 World Cup 2024. PCB is reevaluating player contracts with players who performed poorly in the ongoing T-20 tournament, which dropped Pakistan to move ahead in the competition.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi called a late-night meeting to reconsider contracts and terminate them with the consultation of several other advisory team members.
This move of PCB came after the team did not perform well, with only one and two losses in the tournament. It lost against India by six runs. It also lost by five runs in a Super Over match to the USA. Pak vs. USA was the first match of this tournament.
However, Pakistan defeated Canada by seven wickets with 107 runs at 3 wickets. Following that, a match between Pakistan and Ireland will happen on June 16, 2024.
But, hopes of Pakistan moving ahead in the T-20 tournament vanished when the US and Ireland match was called off due to rainy weather. The USA secured one point.
Hence, the match of Pakistan against Ireland in the tournament will merely be a formality. After playing this match, they will return to their home country following a bad performance.
Pakistan has been eliminated in the league round of a tournament for the third time in cricket history. So, Pakistanis have been strongly criticizing the national team and its administration for their consistently bad performance.

This criticism has urged the PCB to cancel the central contracts of significant team players. According to media sources, Mohammad Amir, Imad Wasim, and Iftikhar Ahmed may face difficulties. Others include Azam Khan and Usman Khan.
However, these are based on media reports. PCB has to announce officially its decision to terminate contracts with certain players.
It is significant to note that players signed a three-year contract under the chairmanship of Zaka Ashraf last year. This contract includes higher compensations.
