Major changes in Pakistan Cricket Team after World Cup 2023

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has introduced major changes in the Pakistan Cricket Team after the squad failed to not make it to the World Cup 2023 semi-finals.

The top-second-ranked ODI international batter and captain of the Pakistan Cricket Team yesterday announced the news of giving up his captaincy in all formats on the official X account.

Who are the new T-20 and test Captains of the Pakistan Team?

Following the resignation of Babar Azam on the same day, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) revealed the names of the new captains for the T20I and Test formats on Wednesday.

PCB has appointed the fast youngest Pakistan bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi as captain of the T-20 Cricket Team in place of former captain Babar Azam. Shan Masood has been appointed as the new Test captain. While PCB will announce the ODI captain in the coming days.

Why did Babar Azam resign?

Before his resignation, former captain Babar Azam met the PCB Chairman Management Committee Zaka Ashraf at PCB headquarters in Lahore yesterday. Zaka asked Babar to continue as Test Captain while Babar decided to keep more focus on his cricket career than captaincy. He decided to step down from being captain with the consultation of his family in all three formats and PCB respected his decision.

Zaka said we want to see Babar develop as a great batter. Now he is free of the additional responsibility of captaincy. He can focus more on his performances in order to achieve even greater heights. He added that we appreciate Babar’s choice and will continue to support him.

Who is the new director of the Pakistan Cricket Team?

Despite changing the captains of T-20 and Test matches, PCB has also changed the management team. It appointed former Pakistan captain Muhammad Hafeez as director of the Pakistan Cricket Team. Hafeez was previously working as part of the technical committee.

Muhammad Hafeez said about his new appointment that he is honored to be named Team Director of the Pakistan Cricket Team. He thanked PCB for believing in his abilities and giving him this challenging opportunity. He has a strong determination to work collaboratively with the coaching staff. And with players to contribute to the success of the team.

PCB has also modified the coaching staff portfolio. All coaches will continue to work at the National Cricket Academy. PCB will announce the new coaching staff for the forthcoming series in Australia and New Zealand in due course.

It is important to note that PCB made such major changes in the Pakistan Cricket Team by a considerable margin. After the failure of the national team to return home without even qualifying for the World Cup 2023 semi-finals.
