That setup was the final shootout in which Inter missed three of their five penalties. Their star scorer Lautaro Martinez sent Atletico to the next round by missing his penalty by a long shot.

The two teams couldn’t have been in more different shapes until this match happened. Inter has won 13 consecutive games since the beginning of 2024. However, Atletico had only won one of their last five.

But in the Spanish city, of Madrid, the game was close and exciting. Atletico pushed hard to win when both teams had a lot of chances. Memphis hit a hard shot before his strike sent the game into extra time. Meanwhile, Rodrigo Riquelme missed a golden opportunity to win the tie for Atletico without extra time.
