Pakistan launched E-Passport services | Electronic Passport Fees
The Directorate General of Immigration and Passport (DGIP) of Pakistan has launched E-Passport services across Pakistan.
The e-passport is a highly secure kind of travel document. One of the passport pages contains an electronic chip that will be used to store biometric information about the holder.
DGIP has begun issuing e-passports throughout Pakistan since November 26, 2023. After a lengthy delay of several years, the issuance of e-passports has finally been initiated.
The advent of e-passports marked a significant advancement in passport technology and travel facilitation. Smart gates are being installed at major international airports such as Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi. Passengers with e-passports will benefit from faster immigration procedures while using these smart gates.

The DGIP has set the different costs of these e-passports. A 36-page e-passport valid for five years will be offered for Rs. 9,000. While an urgent issuance has a cost of Rs. 15,000. Similarly, the fees for a 72-page e-passport are Rs.15000 for a five-year period and Rs. 27,000 for urgent issuance.
A ten-year 72-page e-passport will cost Rs. 24,750 in regular processing while Rs. 40,500 in urgent processing. The ease of getting an e-passport extends to all passport offices around the country which allows easy access to the travel document.
In addition, plans are in the works to spread the e-passport issue procedure to Pakistani embassies across the world including those in Europe and America in the near future.
