35 Pakistani pilgrims died & 18 injured in Iran bus accident
At least 35 Pakistani pilgrims died and 18 received critical injuries in a tragic bus accident in Yazd, Iran. Maulana Qamar Abbas Naqvi, a Larkana-based member of a peace committee reported that five pilgrims died from their injuries in the hospital while at least thirty died on the spot.
However, Iranian media reported the death toll of Pakistani pilgrims to be 28. Iranian authorities imposed emergency in hospitals across the city to treat injured passengers.
According to the media, the bus unfortunately overturned and caught fire close to the Taftan-Dehsir checkpoint. 53 people were on the bus when it crashed last night.
Rescue personnel and police soon arrived at the accident place as they got news of the fatal accident. They took the injured and dead to the hospital.
14 women were among more than 50 passengers on the bus. Six of the passengers were from Kashmore and ten were from Khairpur. Syed Athar Shamsi, the leader of the caravan said Shia Pakistanis departed Larkanda to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (R.A) in Arbaeen, Iran.
Hence, the Shia pilgrims were traveling on two buses when one bus crashed and 35 Pakistani pilgrims died. The bus traveling forward was involved in an accident while the other bus was left behind due to documentation problems.
Meanwhile, President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz condemned the sad incident. They expressed condolences to the victim pilgrims.

The crisis management director general of Yazd province acknowledged bus accident claimed the lives of 11 women and 17 men.
However, Pakistani consular services in Iran revealed seven of the injured pilgrims are in critical while six injured have left hospital. They are following up on the bus accident in Yazd province.
Iranian traffic police claimed a bus accident happened due to a technical defect in its brake system resulting in an overturn.
