US employee charged with brutal rape of his co-worker

US employee charged with brutal rape of his co-worker

Federal authorities charged a US employee of Yosemite National Park with brutal rape of his co-worker. The charged man is 36-year-old Nathan Baptista.

The rape incident happened last month. The U.S. Attorney’s Office, Eastern District of California, revealed the details of this case. Nathan has accusations of choking and sexually assaulting a female employee of Yosemite National Park towards the end of May.

According to official documents, Nathan brutally raped and strangled her on May 31, 2024, after meeting the victim in the night. The National Park Service Police conducted an investigation that led to this case. Arin C. Heinz is an assistant U.S. attorney who is handling this case.

Yosemite Hospitality had employed Nathan Baptista. He lived in a residence with his coworkers at Yosemite National Park where a rape incident happened.

The victim woman stated that she and her friend stopped at the residence, which Nathan shared with other Yosemite Hospitality staff members on their way home. She was in the living room talking with Nathan when he assaulted her. Nobody was around them at that time.

Nathan was aggressive and wild towards the victim physically, which resulted in severe bruising to her. He also strangled and hit her as she tried to stop him during the rape. However, after surviving this tragic incident, she reported it to the police.

Hence, federal prosecutors charged a US employee Nathan Baptista with one count of brutal rape and sexual abuse of his co-worker. Nathan could also receive a maximum sentence of 25 years in jail and a heavy fine of $250,000.

U.S. Attorney’s Office also stated that the jail term of Nathan would be determined at the will of the court following consideration of Federal Sentencing Guidelines. But they did not reveal the identity of the victim woman.
