Two Maldivian ministers arrested for doing black magic on President
Two Maldivian ministers, including Shamnaz Saleem and Adam Rameez, have been arrested for doing black magic on President Mohamed Muizzu. Shamnaz and Adam are currently serving in office.
Shamnaz is a state minister at the Environment Ministry, while Adam is a minister at the President’s Office. Adam is also an ex-husband of minister Shamnaz.
The Maldivian police have refused to comment on the circumstances surrounding the arrests or the alleged use of black magic. They held them in custody on June 23, 2024, and placed them under detention for seven days.
According to the Environment Ministry, they suspended Minister Shamnaz from her position on June 26, 2024. However, the Presidential office suspended Adam from his office position on June 27, 2024.
It is significant to note that Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu, as Male City Mayor, worked with Shamnaz and Adam. The accused members served as members of the Male City Council.
Shamnaz was first hired as a state minister at Muliaage, the presidential’s official house. Later, she moved to the Environment Ministry when Mohamed Muizz took the presidential position in November 2023.
However, Adam was well-known for being President Mohamed’s close ally while he served on Male City Council. But he has been absent from the public eye for the last five months or more.
He became the center of public attention with his ex-wife as Maldivian police arrested both ministers among four people. Shamnaz and Adam are facing accusations of using witchcraft against the president.
Although black magic is not any criminal offense under the law of Maldives, it imposes six months imprisonment under Islamic law.
The Maldives government or the President’s office has not released any official statement on the accused minister’s arrest. However, Maldivian police cracked down on an opposition political rally in the Maldives in 2012.
The rally organizers faced allegations of throwing a “cursed rooster” at officers raiding their offices. People massively practice traditional ceremonies and beliefs in black magic across the Maldives.
