Three Spanish tourists shot dead in Bamiyan, Afghanistan
Three Spanish tourists and one Afghan civilian were shot dead in the central province of Afghanistan, Bamiyan, in the tragic incident. Bamiyan is a famous tourist destination where these criminal murders happened in the late evening on May 17, 2024.
The Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sanchez, expressed sorrow and deep condolences about the fatal killing of Spanish tourists in Afghanistan. He said the news that three Spanish tourists were shot dead shocked him. He is following the matter closely.
PM Pedro also ordered the Spanish foreign ministry to establish a Consular Emergency Unite to provide immediate and necessary help to victims’ families. He also expressed concern about the safety of other Spanish nationals present in Afghanistan.
According to the Spanish Foreign Ministry, they have established a consular emergency unit to help Spanish nationals present in Afghanistan. José Manuel Albares is the Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation of Spain.
José stated they are fully active in ensuring help to the Spanish tourists affected by the Afghanistan attack. He also claimed a group of Spanish diplomats was traveling to Afghanistan to help all their citizens.
Officials stated that an investigation is underway after Afghan officials arrested four suspects at the crime scene in Bamiyan. However, no one has claimed responsibility for these murders.
The spokesperson for the Taliban Interior Ministry, Abdul Mateen Qani, stated yesterday that three Aghans and four other foreigners received critical injuries in the fatal attack. He did not mention the nationalities of foreign tourists.
One Afghan resident told media reporters that he heard the sounds of successive gunshots. Afterward, Afghan security forces blocked the city streets leading to the incident site.
The Baymian is a mountainous and forested region that is a UNESCO world heritage site. It has the remains of two giant Buddha sculptures. However, the Afghan Taliban destroyed this historic and cultural site with explosives in 2001.
