Tanker Explosion in Rivers State killed five people and burnt 70 cars
The tanker explosion at the Eleme section of the East-West Road in Rivers State resulted in the death of five people and the burning of over 70 cars. This horrific explosion happened last night.
An eyewitness named Baridi told media reporters that a tank filled with gasoline collided with a heavy truck which caused it to spill the fuel and catch fire immediately.
It caused multiple explosions and extended fire to a considerable distance along the Akpajo-Onne Raod. Vehicles were traveling there after the typical traffic jam on the newly constructed road.
Baridi said there was no alternative route due to the poor road. So, many cars ended up in the fire. Several car drivers attempted to escape the fire while inside their vehicles. However, they became trapped and burnt in the flames.
A firemen team from the Indorama Petrochemical Company fought the enraged fire for about two hours before extinguishing the fire. Other firemen from private companies also helped them.
