Protestors in Dearborn City, Michigan state chant Death to America and Death to Israel against the Gaza genocide during the International Al-Quds Day rally. It shows a notable disagreement on the final day of Ramadan when protestors chant slogans Death to America and Israel in Michigan and Dearborn.

This protest grabbed attention worldwide and drew different opinions that some locals have about Israel and America. Tarek Bazzi is a Michigan-based activist associated with the Hadi Institute. He emphasized rallying people to raise slogans against America for giving financial support to Israel.

Tarek said the American government provides funds for all of the atrocities referring to the current state of affairs in Gaza. However, Michigan Imam Usama Abdulghani called Israel an “evil settler colonist specialist project.”

Imam Usama also compared Isreal to fascist organizations including ISIS and Nazis. He also raised slogans like “Free Palestine” and “From the river to the sea.” American Jewish Committee considers the term “From the river to the sea” as hate.

Local American officials and legislators have started discussing the chanting and rally’s message. One of them is a Republican representative of Michigan State, Phil Green. He expressed concern over extremism and the divide such language brings to American doorsteps.

Phil also emphasized the need for careful introspection of the movement while Dearborn residents are peaceful. Meanwhile, Executive Director of MEMRI, Steven Stalinsky said the protest is a long-term continuation of a Dearborn custom that dates back at least 20 years. It celebrates International Al-Quds Day.

Steven also called Dearborn a “hotbed of hate” citing local support for organizations like Iran, Hezbollah, and Hamas. These feelings have grown only stronger in the wake of the latest attack on Israel by Hamas.

It is significant to note that Steven writes on a combination of Islamic terrorism and technology. MEMRI refers to the Middle East Media Research Institute.
