Arab leaders including Jordan and Palestine cancel the summit with Biden over the Gaza hospital strike by Israel overnight. This four-way summit was scheduled to be hosted in the capital of Jordan, Amman today.
US President Joe Biden and Egyptian and Palestinian leaders had to discuss Gaza amid the ongoing Israel-HAMAS war. But after Israel’s launched airstrike on al-Ahli Arab Hospital in central Gaza, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has canceled the meeting with Biden.
Jordan King condemns Israel Airstrike on Gaza Hospital
King Abdullah of Jordan had to host the summit with having agenda to get humanitarian assistance to Gaza. Abdullah has blamed Israel for doing a blast on the Gaza hospital that killed about five hundred Palestinians according to the Health Ministry of Gaza. Al Jazeera reported the death rate of Palestinians in the hundreds.
King Abdullah condemned the Israeli attack on Gaza Hospital saying it was a shame on humanity. He also called on Israel to immediately end its military assault on the Gaza Strip. He warned the response of Israel to the HAMAS attack on Oct 7, 2023, went beyond the right of self-defense to collective punishment of Palestinian civilians.
Rashida Tlaib criticized the efforts of US President Joe Biden in the ongoing Israel-HAMAS war. Tlaib is the only Palestinian American in the Congress party.
Over seventy religious and activist groups led by the Council on American-Islamic Relations called on Biden to demand a cease-fire in Gaza during his visit to Israel.
After the cancelation of the four-way summit meeting, Biden landed today in Tel Aviv, Israel to express his solidarity with the people of Israel. While the largest US Muslim civil rights group demanded him to ask Israel to stop military operation in Gaza.
The officials of Palestine say the explosion at the hospital was due to an Israeli airstrike. On the other hand, Israeli officials claim a rocket launched by a Palestinian armed group HAMAS misfired.
