Norway Ireland and Spain to recognize Palestine officially next week
Three European countries, including Ireland, Spain, and Norway, will officially recognize the state of Palestine next week. This is a historic decision that has received applause from the Palestinians and a severe backlash from Israelis.
Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store led the recognition announcement on behalf of Norway. He stated they must maintain the sole alternative that offers a political solution for Israelis and Palestinians alike in the middle of a war with tens of thousands murdered and injured.
Shortly after, Irish Prime Minister Simon Harris expressed his optimism that their decision would offer hope and encouragement to the people of Palestine at one of the darkest hours.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said this recognition is not against the Israeli people. It is an act that supports morality, justice, and peace.
However, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Kartz stated Ireland and Norway hope to send a message to the Palestinians and the world: terrorism and pay.
Israel Kartz also claimed the recognition would make a cease-fire in Gaza less probable and suppress the efforts to return Israeli hostages being held in Gaza. He described it as rewarding the jihadists of Hamas and Iran.
The recognition decision came in the aftermath of Israel’s offensive actions in Gaza. It has killed massive people, including children and women. Hence, the declarations from three European nations are the latest diplomatic blow to Israel.
The deadly offensive strategy of Israel in the Gaza Strip is facing growing International isolation and criticism. However, Israel quickly recalled its ambassadors from Norway and Ireland while protesting against their recent move. It also announced the recalling of Ambassador Rodica Radian-Gordon from Spain.
Trio nations Ireland, Norway, and Spain will recognize Palestine officially on May 28, 2024. Other European nations may also follow it in response to their concern over Israeli’s actions in Gaza.
