Ex-lover killed 20-year-old girl for refusing his proposal in Karnataka
An ex-lover named Girish Sawant killed a 20-year-old girl, Anjali Ambiger, for refusing his proposal in Hubballi, Karnataka state. The suspect, Girish, is a 21-year-old autorickshaw driver.
The deceased girl, Anjali, worked in a local canteen and lived with her sister and grandmother after her parents passed away. However, Girish is a resident of Yallapur Street.
Girish had allegedly asked Anjali to accompany him to Mysuru on several occasions. But Anjali turned down his romantic offers. After refusal, Girish threatened to kill Anjali in the same way that Neha Hiremath died.
Class fellow of Neha, Fayaz Khandunayak, stabbed her to death for rejecting all of his approaches towards her. This incident happened on April 18, 2024, in Hubballi. Neha was a 23-year-old woman.
Following the same killing method, Girish appeared to knock on Anjali’s home on Veerapur Street early morning and entered the house after opening the door. Then, ex-lover Girish killed 20-year-old girl Anjali while stabbing her at least seven to eight times.
After the murder, Girish escaped the murder scene. He has already been facing theft charges. Police found Anjali dead in a pool of blood at the doorstep of the home. Meanwhile, Bendigeri police have registered a case against Girish and their investigation is underway.
Hubballi-Dharwad commissioner of police, Renuka Sukumar, told the media Girish attacked Anjali with a knife as soon she opened the door.
Renuka also revealed that Anjali and Girish had a romantic relationship and planned to marry. However, things changed when Girish asked her to move with him to Mysuru and threatened her to kill if she refused.

According to Anjali’s grandmother, Girish killed Anjali after she rejected his proposal to marry her. Girish was continuously harassing her.
Anjali and her grandmother reportedly complained to the Bendigeri police about ongoing harassment. But, the police did not take notice of this matter. Grandmother said her Anjali would be alive if the police had taken the matter seriously.
However, Renuka said they would deal seriously with the negligence of the police. Even if the victim had just verbally complained instead of filing a case, the police should have acted.
