China will not attend the G20 summit in India
The Chinese government has confirmed that China will not attend the G20 summit in India. Instead of Chinese President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang will head the group. Mao Ning confirmed that Li would lead the delegation. Ning is a spokesperson for Foreign Affairs of China.
External Affairs Minister of India, S Jaishankar said the absence of Chinese President Xi Jinping will not cast a shadow on the G-20 Summit. He added that there have been Presidents and Prime Ministers who have chosen not to attend the global meetings for some reason. And the country’s position is reflected by other representatives of the state.
Xi skips G-20 Summit but attends BRICS Summit
Xi visited the G20 virtually in 2020 and 2021 owing to the pandemic, but this is the first occasion since 2008 that he won’t. He recently went to the BRICS conference in South Africa, which focused on non-western organizations. Financial Times reports that Xi Jinping dominates the BRICS summit.
