China bridge collapse killed 11 and dozens of people went missing
Heavy rains in northern China caused a bridge to collapse which killed 11 people and left over 30 missing in Shangluo, Shaanxi province. According to the provincial public relations department in Shanglou, the bridge collapsed at approximately 8:40 p.m. yesterday due to a sudden rainfall and flash floods.
The CCTV video footage helped rescue personnel to find 11 dead victims with five cars that had been pulled out of the water. However, over 30 persons and nearly 20 cars went missing.
Images from the incident place showed water flowing over a portion of the damaged collapsed bridge that was half-drowned. A witness informed local media as he got closer to the bridge. Some car drivers began yelling at him to brake and stop the car.
According to a witness, a truck failed to stop in front of him and fell into drowned water. Meanwhile, locals and excavators are working on the collapsed bridge to repair the damage.
However, Chinese President Xi Jinping has ordered all-out efforts to find missing people as a result of the bridge collapse in China.
Heavy and violent rains have hit large parts of northern and central China since July 16, 2024. It has created havoc due to flash floods.

Catastrophic rains caused flooding and mudslides on July 19, 2024, in Baoji City, Shaanxi. It resulted in the deaths of five people and eight people missing.
Surprisingly, rain also fell on the semi-dessert provinces of Gansu which borders Shaanxi and Henan in central China this week. Two more people died and seven went missing in south-west Sichuan province on July 19, 2024, as landslides caused by heavy rain.
Hence, China is experiencing an unusual summer with massive destructive rain in the east and south. However, its other part has been blasted with intense heatwaves.
