The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has raided Trinamool Congress party leader Mahua Moitra’s house in Kolkata. CBI raided Mahua Moitra’s house in connection with the cash-for-query case.

This raid comes a day after the CBI filed a First Information Report or FIR against Mahua Moitra. Anti-corruption watchdog, Lokpal directed this week to investigate the charges against Ms Mahua and submit a report within six months.

Lokpal mentioned in its order it required CBI to file monthly status reports on the inquiry. After careful evaluation and consideration of the entire material on record, there remains no doubt that the allegations leveled against Mahua are supported by solid evidence.

Moreover, Lokpal stated accusations against Mahua Moitra are extremely serious, especially considering the position held by her.

Following instructions of Lokpal, teams from the central investigation agency CBI arrived at the house of Mahua in Kolkata and other cities in the early morning today. They informed her about the search and began the operation.

The cash-for-query case refers to allegations against Mahua Moitra of receiving bribes from businessman Darshan Hiranandani in exchange for raising critical questions about the government of Narendra Modi in Parliament.

She has also accusations of exchanging her parliamentary login details with Darshan. Lok Sabha (Indian parliament also expelled Mahua Moitra last year in December.

An ethics panel recommended dispelling Mahua as a member of parliament following the above accusations. Hence, Lok Sabha parliament expelled her for unethical conduct in December 2023.
