Canada arrested 3 Indians in murder case of Sikh leader Hardeep Nijjar

The police of Canada arrested 3 Indians in connection with the murder case of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Canadian police claimed the arrested Indians were members of the assassination team that killed Hardeep last year.

Mandeep Mooker is the RCMP superintendent and head of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team. RCMP refers to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Mandeep stated three arrested Indians were non-permanent residents of Alberta for a period of three to five years. The three Indian suspects are 22-year-old Karan Brar, 28-year-old Karanpreet Singh, and 22-year-old Kamalpreet Singh.

Investigative cops in Canada have also released photos of 3 arrested Indians. They have charged them with counts of murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

According to RCMP, they did not know any of the suspects before and were investigating whether the murder case had any links to the Indian government. RCMP Assistant Commissioner David Teboul said at a news conference that the murder case of Hardeep Singh is very much under active investigation.

David also said there are separate and distinct investigations into this murder case. They are not limited to investigating the role of arrested Indian suspects today. These investigations include possible connections with the Indian government.

This murder case investigation dates back to the killing of Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. He was shot and killed outside of a gurdwara in Surrey, Canada, on June 18, 2023.

Hardeep was a Canadian citizen and was a wanted man in India on multiple terror charges. He was also an activist of the Indian separatist movement, Khalistan.

After the murder, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused Indian agents played a role in the killing of Hardeep on the soil of Canada last year. However, India denied the allegations of involvement in the murder of Hardeep. India called the allegations of Canada absurd and motivated.

Allegations of Justin against India caused a great conflict, and both countries recalled their ambassadors from each other country. Hence, Hardeep’s murder has created a wide rift between India and Canada in diplomatic terms.
