American Attorney Hunter Biden faces nine criminal charges
American Attorney and son of US President Hunter Biden faces nine criminal charges for avoiding a $1.4 million tax bill. Special Counsel David Weiss filed the second criminal case against Hunter Biden in California court. The first case against him was regarding gun charges.
California Grand Jury has charged him in connection with a long-running United States Justice Department inquiry into his taxes. The charges include nine counts of failure to file and pay taxes, avoidance of tax assessment, and filing a false and fraudulent tax return.
What are the allegations of special counsel against Hunter Biden?
According to the special counsel’s office, Hunter engaged in a four-year scheme to not pay at least $1.4 million in taxes owed from 2016 to 2019. Though Hunter eventually paid his 2018 taxes. Prosecutors allege that he used bogus business deductions to avoid tax assessment and decrease the large tax liabilities he faced.
Prosecutors also claim in the 56-page indictment that Hunter dodged his company’s payroll and tax withholding processes. He took millions of dollars out of its payroll and tax withholding process.
According to the indictment, Hunter spent millions of dollars on an extravagant lifestyle rather than paying his tax bills. It states that Hunter spent this money on drugs, escorts, girlfriends, luxury hotels, rental properties, exotic cars, clothing, and other personal items. In other words, he spent on everything except his taxes.
Attorney of Hunter Biden Abbe Lowell stated that if Hunter’s surname had been anything other than “Biden”, the charges against him would not have been brought up.
Abbe referred the charges of Hunter to the rivalry between Donald Trump with United States President Joe Biden. Hunter is the second son of Joe Biden. Trump designated David Weiss who is an American Attorney and special counsel and filed a case against Hunter.
Abbe also accused David of bending to political pressure from Republicans. He stated David’s actions posed a grave threat to the justice system of the United States. According to the US Justice Department, Hunter may face up to a maximum of 17 years of imprisonment following his charges.
