Trial of American actor Alec Baldwin to begin in fatal shooting case

A New Mexico court ordered the trial of American actor Alec Baldwin over the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in the Hannah Gutierrez-Reed trial case. The court has given the verdict to resume the trial of American actor Alec Baldwin in July 2024.

It came after a grand jury charged Alec with the unintentional killing of Halyna in January 2024. He was aiming a gun at Halyna on a film set “Rust” near Santa Fe, Nex Mexico. Meanwhile, Halyna died and director Joel Souza was injured.

The spokesperson and lawyer Alec did not comment on the court ruling. However, there are speculations that the upcoming trial of Alec put his career at risk, particularly after the strict court verdict against Hannah Gutierrez-Reed.

A New Mexico court found movie weapons supervisor Hannah Gutierrez-Reed guilty of the fatal shooting by Alec Baldwin. The court convicted Hannah of unintentional killing in a fatal shooting of Halyna Hutchins by Alec during a practice on the film set.

The verdict against movie armorer Hannah Gutirrez-Reed referred to the fatal shooting of Halyna in October 2021. It came as Hannah pleaded not guilty to her improper firearm handling.

Hannah also faced a second charge of tampering with evidence. There are also allegations she handed a tiny bag containing drugs to another crew member after the shooting to hide evidence. However, the court did not convict her on this charge.

After the verdict, the judge ordered authorities to take Hannah to jail by deputies. According to the lead attorney, Jason Bowle will appeal the conviction. It carries a penalty of up to 18 months imprisonment and a $5,000 fine. Meanwhile, the court also ordered to resume the trial of Alec Baldwin.

Prosecutors said at trial that Hannah unintentionally transported real firearms onto the movie set. It stayed there for at least 12 days before the fatal shot of Hannah. Hence, it gave her plenty of opportunity to remove it but she did not do it due to negligence.

Prosecutor Kari Morrisey said the movie set of Rust shows constant, never-ending safety failures and a lack of diligence in Hannah about gun safety.
