Director Nick Cassavetes and son of American actress Gena Rowland suffering from Alzheimer’s disease for years. Gena is a four-time Emmy award winner and two Oscar awards. She is 94 years old.

Nick revealed the news of her mother’s illness while giving an interview with Entertainment Weekly. He said his mother has Alzheimer’s for the last five years. Gena played the character of Allie suffering from dementia in the movie Notebook (2004).

Alzheimer’s is a type of dementia disease. Nick also talked about Gena’s role as Allie that they spent a lot of time talking about it and wanting it to be authentic.

According to Nick, Gena is now in full dementia which is entirely crazy and they are experiencing it. He also said that his family has a history of this particular disease which is difficult for them to deal with.

Gena herself shared her experience about her Allie role in the film Notebook in 2004. She said her role was inspired by her experience with her mother, Lady Rowlands. Lady Rowlands also had Alzheimer’s disease.

Actress Gena said she experienced Alzheimer’s disease effects with her mother. If Nick had not directed the film Notebook, she does not think she would have gone for it. It is just too hard but a wonderful movie.

However, Gena served as an incredible actress in field of entertainment industry for nearly seven decades. Her most famous roles are in films including Gloria, A Woman Under the Influence, and Opening Night.
