The deceased left behind his son Suchetan and his wife Meera. He was previously a member of the CPM’s top decision-making body, Politburo. CMP refers to the largest communist party (Marxist) in India.

Buddhadeb overthrew the 6th and longest-serving chief minister of West Bengal, Jyoti Basu from 1977 to 2000. Jyoti was also a member of CMP.

People of West Bengal appreciated the more open policies of Buddhadeb than former minister Jyoti. They attribute the long reign era to misrule dominance under the government of Joyti.

They are recalling memories and efforts of Buddhadeb for their welfare. He introduced notable reforms to elevate the level of common people.
