Pakistan faced first defeat in World Championship of Legends 2024

Pakistan Cricket Team faced its first defeat against South Africa by nine wickets in the World Championship of Legends 2024. South Africans took down the 211-run target in the 19th at the cost of just one wicket.

This showed the inability of the Younis Khan-led Pakistani squad who could not stand against its rival team. It scored 210 runs at 4 wickets when South Africa requested them to bat in the first innings.

Vernon Philander took an early wicket from Kamran Akmal scoring only 13 runs giving the innings a poor start. However, Sharjeel Khan with the help of other Pakistani batters remained successful in providing momentum to start the innings.

Sharjeel made an 85-run partnership with Sohaib Maqsood (scored 24 runs). He made 72 runs at 36 balls by hitting six sixes and seven fours. Meanwhile, Shahid Afridi arrived at the field and struck 20 at 10 balls.

On the other hand, Shoaib Malik and Abdul Razzaq proved difficult to handle for South Africans as they scored 75 runs in just 31 balls. It helped Pakistan pass a score of 200. Abdul Razzaq made 25 runs at 15 balls while Shoaib hit 51 at 26 balls.

While coming to the second innings, JP Duminy, the key player of South Africa, lost in the third over of the run chase. Jacques Snyman and Sarel Erwee adopted different strategies when they batted together for the second wicket.

The pair was too much for Pakistan to handle as they easily won the run chase. Sarel scored a 105 on 57 balls while Snyman made 82 on 47 balls. This helped South Africa to secure victory and hence Pakistan faced its first defeat.

It is significant to note that Pakistan has already reached the semi-finals of the World Championship of Legends 2024 after winning four consecutive matches. The other squad to qualify is Australia.

England faced elimination from the last four races while South Africa, India, and the West Indies are still running for the championship semi-finals.
