Local hero and national-level cricketer Asad Shafiq received “Guard of Honor” from his teammates at Karachi White after winning the National T20 Cup. Asad was the captain of Karachi White who defeated Abbottabad Region by runs of nine score.

The PCB has added Asad Shafiq to the pool of players in the local gold category after he registered for the PSL 9 draft. Asad is a key member of Pakistan’s Test batting lineup, scoring 4,660 runs in 77 games at an excellent average of 38.19 from 2010 to 2020.

Karachi Whites Captain Asad announced his retirement from cricket on Sunday. The statement came after he led Karachi Whites to win the National T20 title, capping off an amazing career in cricket. However, he will play a few more matches before retiring from the sport.

Asad Shafiq stated in a press conference that he does not feel the same excitement and passion for playing cricket. He also doesn’t have the same fitness levels required for international cricket. That is why he has decided to retire from cricket.

Asad has also confirmed his involvement in the newly formed selection committee led by Wahab Riaz, who was appointed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). He continued by saying that he received the contract from the board. He is reviewing it. Hopefully, it will be processed soon.

His remarkable contribution includes 12 centuries and 27 half-centuries, firmly establishing him as an essential player in the team’s success.

Asad Shafiq also opened up about the difficult experience the Pakistan squad went through during the spot-fixing controversy in 2010. He expressed satisfaction at having been a part of the process by which the team successfully reclaimed the people’s faith and confidence.

During his illustrious career, the 37-year-old cricketer also represented Pakistan in 60 ODIs and 10 T20 Internationals. In addition to his international accomplishments, he scored nearly 12,000 runs in 191 First-Class matches. He made 5,784 runs in 162 List-A matches.
