Netflix is ending its cheapest ad-free plan for existing users
Netflix is ending its cheapest ad-free plan for its existing users as it is suggesting they select a new plan to continue using the service. It is carrying out its intention to gradually remove its most affordable ad-free subscription option for current users.
Some Netflix users with basic plan subscriptions have revealed it in Reddit threads. They received a Netflix message, “Your last day to watch Netflix is July 13th. Choose a new plan to continue watching.” It appeared on a Reddit user’s Netflix app.
Hence, Netflix offers three options to existing subscribers who pay $11.99 monthly. They will have to choose either a $6.99 plan with ads, a $15.49 plan without ads, or a $22.99 plan without ads and with 4K quality.
It appears that the majority receiving this new notification of Netlfix are from Canada or the UK based on Reddit posts. It is significant to note that Netflix announced in January that it will discontinue the basic plan for current subscribers in the second quarter of this user, beginning with those in Canada and the UK.
Following this announcement, Netflix is ending its cheapest ad-free plan. Hence, it has removed the basic plan from the pricing page in both Canada and the UK. However, you can change your plan at any time.

Netflix ended the basic ad-free plan for new and existing subscribers in the United States last year. Yet, it has not been revealed when it will end this plan for existing subscribers in America.
This move by Netflix aims to encourage its users to subscribe to their ad-supported plan like several other streaming services. Netflix has grown to more than 40 million subscribers as of May 2024.
Currently, Netflix offers the cheapest ad-based plans at $6.99 plan monthly. However, the same plans for Max, Paramount+, and Disney Plus are $8 monthly.
