Hunger Moon tonight: Why you shouldn’t miss it?

If you are a moon lover, do not forget to gaze tonight; a stunning Hunger Moon awaits you. Notably, the full moon today February 24, 2024, is also known as a snow moon.

It is named so as a lunar event hailed from a historical point of view when native American tribes used to hunt in the severe snowfall in the region during this season, they could not hunt adequately. It led them to remain hungry. This is where the name Hunger Moon or Snow Moon comes from.

In the central plains region of America, February is the snowiest month along the northeast Coast, while January is the peak month for snowfall.

Once in a while, the moon’s orbit brings it into the shadow of Earth. The full moon in February will avoid the Earth’s shadow. This is because the moon’s orbit is tilted by five degrees to the plane of Earth’s orbit. Thus, the Earth will not be directly present between the Earth and the Moon tonight.

Hunger Moon began on Feb 23, 2024 night, don’t worry if you missed out on yesterday’s spectacle. Tonight will present another opportunity as it will reach its peak brightness tonight at around 7:34 p.m.
