British Museum to digitize its collection after thefts
The British Museum announced today that it is going to digitize its entire collection after thefts incident in the country. They made this decision to secure ancient artefacts.
There are missing reports of about 2,000 artifacts in the month of August. So, the Museum administration has taken the step to digitize its collection to prevent artefact thefts.

The interim director of the British Museum, Mark Jones said they have taken steps to improve security and now they are confident that this kind of theft can never happen again. But he said they must not assume the security of collection can be simply achieved by locking everything away. He believes that the most important response to the thefts is to increase access.
The announcement of digitizing the collection of the Museum came today at the Culture, Media, and Sport Committee session when the British Museum Chairman, George Osborne told the session that the digitized collection decision has been made to prevent the thefts from happening. He said as Museum has been a “victim of inside job” thefts and steps are taken to ensure they do not happen again.
The Museum sacked a member of staff suspected of involvement in the theft of artefacts. The Metropolitan Police of London is conducting an investigation into the suspicious member of the museum.
The proposed project of digitization would take about five years comprise of 2.4 million records to upload or upgrade.
According to Reuters, the total museum collection has at least 8 million ancient antiquities.
