TLP filed FIR against Ahmadi for sacrificing goat on Eid-ul-Adha

An official from Tehreek-i-Labbaik (TLP) filed an FIR against a member of the Ahmadi community for allegedly sacrificing a goat on Eid-ul-Adha. TLP is an Islamist political party in Pakistan.

However, Ahmadis are a minority in Pakistan who consider themselves Muslim but the Pakistani state did not grant them “Muslim status.” The TLP complaitant was Mohsin Raza.

This incident allegedly happened on June 17, 2024, in Gojra, Toba Tek Sindh district. Following this, Toba Tek Singh police have filed an FIR against an Ahmadi community member under the PPC Section 298-C in response to the TLP complainant. PPC refers to the Pakistan Penal Code.

FIR registered by TLP official against Ahmadi member

This section goes into detail about what happens if an Ahmadi member calls themselves a Muslim or spreads their faith. Mohsin said in the FIR that he came to know that Mubashar Iqbal practicing Ahmadi beliefs was offering a goat sacrifice in a Gojra village.

He claimed he found an animal was sacrificed at the accused’s home when he arrived at the village. He said he stood firm and called himself a Muslim when a TLP official warned him against his act.

According to FIR, the suspect hurt the sentiments of Muslims by sacrificing an animal and claiming to be a Muslim. The suspect has committed severe abuse by pretending to be a Muslim and following Islamic rituals. Police reportedly arrested Mubashir Iqbal.

On the other hand, there are claims on social media that Punjab Police are using voter lists to target Ahmadis. They are arresting them and forcing them to sign affidavits not to sacrifice animals on Eid.

The Ahmadi community is also claiming that TLP is targeting Ahmadi houses with similar lists and looking into refrigerators to find meet. According to them, state action against them has reached unimagined levels.

However, no national media has reported such news. But Indian media reports massive arrests of at least 36 Ahmadis for sacrificing animals.

Amir Mehmood is a representative of the Jamaat Ahmadiyya community in Pakistan. He claimed their community was denied religious freedom. Hence, they suffered violence and harassment throughout Punjab on the holy day of Eid.

Amir claimed nine FIRs against Ahmadi members from Sheikhupura, Gujranwala, Rahim Yyar Khan, Toba Tek Singh, and Sargodha. He also questioned the integrity of a 2022 Supreme Court order 2022.

This order describes it as unconstitutional to prevent non-Muslims from practicing their religion inside the boundaries of their house of worship.
