Pervaiz Elahi shifted to Cardiology Hospital after chest pain
According to media sources, jail authorities shifted PTI Central President Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi to Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology Hospital (RIC). He complained of chest pain and cardiac difficulties in the early hours of the morning at Adiala jail.
According to jail officials, RIC doctors conducted his medical tests for complaints of chest pain. The results of his electrocardiogram (ECG) and echocardiography are still awaited.
However, this is not the first time, that authorities shifted Pervaiz Elahi to Cardiology Hospital (RIC) with a complaint of chest pain. They also shifted him to RIC on Dec 24, 2023, the previous week.
Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi is one of several PTI leaders and supporters who are facing imprisonment. His detention comes following a crackdown on PTI leadership in the aftermath of Imran Khan’s initial arrest on May 9.
Police have arrested Pervaiz several times since June 1 in various cases. The Punjab Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) filed a case against him on September 18, 2023. In this particular case, he has been in Adiala jail recently.
According to an ACE spokesperson, there are allegations against Pervaiz of 12 illegal recruitments in the Punjab Assembly for grade 17 positions. The alleged recruitments involved document manipulation within the provincial assembly.

Meanwhile, the NAB filed a corruption case against Pervaiz Elahi and his son Moonis Elahi on Dec 2, 2023. It accused them of taking Rs1.23 billion in bribes in connection with development projects in his home district of Gujrat. According to NAB, this case contains allegations of abuse of authority and accepting bribes of Rs1.230 billion.
This high-profile case focuses on 116 development projects in Gujarat that are being funded through Supplementary Grants for the year 2022-23. However, the expected cost of these projects was Rs30.948 billion in total. The inquiry, however, found that Ch Pervaiz Elahi and his son received significant bribes from these projects.
