Bajaur district blast in KPK martyred police officers
Several police officers and civilians have been martyred and injured as a result of the blast near a police van in Bajaur district, KPK. According to Bajaur police spokesperson Israr Ahmed, the police officers were on their way to offer security to polio teams during the blast.
The district Bajaur was undergoing a vaccination campaign when the blast happened. District Police Officer (DPO) Kashif Zulfqar has confirmed the casualties of five police officers. However, there are at least 20 people injured including police officers and other civilians. There is the possibility of an increased death toll.
Dr. Wazir Khan, the medical superintendent of Khar District Headquarters (DHQ) stated that they treated 12 of the injured people. However, the Peshawar medical facility attended to other ten injured people.
According to Malakand Division Commissioner Saqib Raza, the polio campaign in the area has stopped due to the blast. Rescue teams in Mohmand and Lower Dir districts are also on high alert amid terror attacks. However, Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for this blast.
PPP senior politician Sherry Rehman conveyed her heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families. She wrote terrorists have not only attacked the police but also our children’s health. They would not tolerate attacks on security teams providing security to polio teams. The culprits do not want complete eradication of polio from Pakistan.
Interim Chief Minister Arshad Hussain Shah condemned the TTP attack and expressed condolences for the martyrdom of police officials. He prayed for the quick recovery of the injured.

CM Arshad also directed the district administration to provide them with timely assistance. He emphasized that such cowardly attacks would not lower the police morale.
Furthermore, he praised the KP police for making eternal sacrifices to defend the lives of the public. The nation applauded them. He promised to offer every possible support to the victimized families.
There are two militant groups, TTP and Tehreek-e-Jihad-e-Pakistan (TJP), have launched a series of attacks targeting police and other security forces in KPK. The last attack included a terror attack in Khyber district by TJP on Dec 15, 2023.
