13 passengers died as jeep fell into Neelum River, Muzzafarabad

13 passengers died as they were traveling on a jeep when it fell into the icy Neelum River at Devlian in Muzzafarabad. Muzzafarabad is a district of the Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK).

The monsoon has started in Pakistan. Violent rains with strong winds hit the AJK today, including Mirpur, Mangla, and Chaksori. It has severely lowered the temperature in AJK.

Aftermath of jeep accident in Neelum River

A jeep slipped over the highway and fell into Neelum River at about 11 a.m. Heavy rains with stormy wind likely caused the jeep to slip. After this accident, rescue personnel arrived at the scene as soon as the incident was reported.

They conducted a rescue operation to save the remaining passengers. They shifted the injured people to a local hospital for immediate medical treatment. Four passengers received injuries.

The dead passengers are men, women, and children. However, rescue crews moved the dead bodies to a mortuary for medico-legal proceedings. 13 passengers died, including three children and four men with the remaining six men.

The weather conditions in the district of AJK usually resulted in fatal accidents. In a similar incident, a traffic accident in the Taobat region of the Neelum Valley district claimed the lives of at least six persons. Women and children were also among the dead persons.

According to authorities, a driver lost control of a jeep carrying 23 people from Kail to Taobat and fell into the Neelum River. As a result, every person inside the Jeep died by drowning in the river.

Rescue personnel later arrived at the accident place. Eyewitnesses informed that the violent current of the river carried away the jeep. It makes it challenging for rescue personnel to find it.
