Wikileaks founder Julian Assange released from UK prison after US deal
The founder of Wikileaks, Julian Assange is released from UK prison making a deal with the US after his five-year legal trial. He is now returning to his homeland Australia.
Wikileaks stated Julian left the UK following a lengthy lawsuit in which he agreed to plead guilty to criminal charges in exchange for his release from prison.
Meanwhile, his wife Stella Assange thanked his husband’s followers. She said they have all mobilized for years and years to make Julian’s release come true. Julian has been in UK prison since 2019.
However, regarding the recent development, Wikileaks founder Julian Assange was released from UK prison on behalf of the US. The US will not hold him in custody. Wikileaks announced that Julian got out of Belmarsh prison after spending 1,901 days in a confined cell.
It further stated that UK authorities released him at the Stansted Airport during the afternoon on June 24, 2024. Hence, he took a plane there and departed the UK on his way to Australia. According to footage of Wikileaks, Julian headed to the Stansted airport wearing blue jeans and a cream shirt.

Julian Assange was spending jail term in the UK facing accusations of plotting to gain and reveal information related to US national defense. His accusations come in connection with the 2010 Wikileaks publicized content regarding US-led wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The US has maintained for years that lives were at risk as a result of these leaked Wikileaks files. Julian faced a jail sentence in a UK prison for the past five years. He had also been fighting deportation to the US as America wanted his custody from the UK.
Julian is facing one charge of violating the espionage law in America. A court in the Northern Marian Islands is likely to approve the deal which calls for Julian to enter a guilty plea to his single charge. This development will happen on July 26, 2024.
