Turkish protestors attacked two US soldiers in Izmir
A group of anti-American Turkish protestors violently attacked two US soldiers recorded on video that went viral on social media. A 10-second video showed one of the victims, a US serviceman standing in the middle of six Turkish men who were grabbing hold of his arms and chest.
According to media reports, this incident happened in the Turkish port city of Izmir. The victim servicemen were from the USS Wasp, an American Navy service, who had recently arrived in Turkey.
One of the attackers also put a sack around the victim’s shaved head while others raised slogans, “Yankee, go home!” Yankee refers to US Marines members.
Following this attack, another man from an outside group of Turkish attackers intervened and gave a heavy punch into the attacker’s shoulder to try to stop a violent attack on a US soldier. This resulted in a wrestling match between the intervened guy and an attacker wearing glasses.
However, Turkish protestors who attacked two US soldiers were members of the Youth Union of Turkey. It shared that Turkish authorities have arrested fifteen members of its organization in the aftermath of the attack incident.
The protestors reportedly attacked US servicemen stating that US soldiers carry the blood of their national soldiers and thousands of Palestinians on their hands. Hence, they cannot pollute their land with their existence.
However, the US Defense Department Pentagon stated they analyzed a viral video featuring an attack on American soldiers. It expressed concern over the unjustified treatment of Turkish protestors by Navy soldiers. It said they will approach Turkish authorities in connection with this incident.
Meanwhile, Navy Forces Europe Spokesperson Cmdr. Tim Gorman said they have seen reports on social media about a US service member being attacked in Izmir. They are working to confirm the details of what happened.
