President Erdogan threatened to enter Israel to protect Palestinians

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan threatened to enter Israel to protect Palestinians amid the ongoing severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He warned of sending its most powerful NATO forces into Israel to act on behalf of the Palestinian people.

It is significant to note that Turkey became a member of NATO in 1952. It has its second-largest NATO army. Turkey is also the host of the NATO land forces headquarters based in Izmir. Turkish General Commander Mustafa Oğuz is chief of staff for NATO land forces.

President Tayyip Erdogan passed the bold statement while addressing a gathering of his ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) in the Black Sea city of Rize.

He stated Turkey must be strong so that Israel cannot commit these ridiculous acts to the people of Palestine. He emphasized that they would do something similar to them, just like they entered Libya and Karabakh.

Meanwhile, Israel Foreign Minister Israel Kartz reached to Tayyip Erdogan’s remarks. He compared him to the late Iraqi President Saddam Hussein by calling him a “dictator.”

Hence, strong remarks of President Erdogan when he threatened to enter Israel have raised concerns about a wider regional conflict in the Middle East.

He usually uses rhetorical views to support his core Islamist supporters though it is a fact that Turkey is the second-largest army in NATO. He has also been willing to make considerable military progress in the region, particularly in Syria and Iraq.

It also has a history of invading foreign lands to help its ally countries. It sent Turkish troops to Libya to support the government that the UN has recognized against several rebellion armed groups in Jan 2020.

Turkey also helped Azerbaijan during the second Nagorno-Karabakh War Region against Armenia in September 2020. This war was over a disputed region between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
