Massive fire in Kuwait building killed 41 people & dozens injured
A massive fire broke out in a building housing workers in Kuwait, which resulted in the deaths of at least 41 people and dozens of injured. This incident happened in the southern Mangaf district of Kuwait.
The incident place is home to many foreign workers who unfortunately caught catastrophic and fatal fires. There are many foreign laborers living in this region. Hence, Kuwait authorities could not immediately report the nationality of the dead victims was not immediately known.
Sheikh Fahad al-Yousaf al-Sabah is the Deputy Prime Minister of Kuwait. He is in charge of defense and interior ministries. Sheikh Fahad also visited the incident place and ordered the arrest of the building owner for over-crowding workers. He stated that the greed of real estate owners caused these incidents.
According to the Health Ministry of Kuwait, 41 people died, and several received critical burn injuries in an early-morning fire in Mangaf. Meanwhile, other authorities reported that the fire was under control.
Indian media reports that a massive fire in a Kuwait building killed workers who were mostly Indians. According to the Indian ambassador to Kuwait, Adarsh Swaiki, there are around 30 injured Indian workers in the hospital to receive medical treatment.
Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences to the victim’s families at this incident. He is sad to know about the fire mishap in Kuwait. He also prayed for the speedy recovery of injured people.
The fire originated from a kitchen in a six-story building at 6:00 a.m. Nearly 160 workers of the same company were living in the affected building. According to eye-witnesses, a few people died as they tried to jump from the building’s fifth story to escape fire.
A senior police officer stated several workers were housed in a building when the fire broke out. Hence, many people died from smoke inhalation from fire. They are investigating the exact cause of the fire.
However, they have rescued massive workers from a catastrophic fire. He also said they always warn against crowding too many workers into housing accommodation.
