Maldives to ban Israelis from entering the country among Gaza conflict

South Asian Muslim country Maldives has announced a ban on Israelis from entering the country due to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. This announcement came as part of a Maldivian government effort to facilitate Palestinians suffering from the Hamas-Israel conflict.

According to this announcement, any holder of an Israeli passport will not be allowed to enter Maldivian territory. The Presidential Office of Maldives made this announcement in a press release on behalf of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

The Maldivian President decided to implement this ban after the cabinet made a recommendation. Following this decision, the president’s office announced they would also amend the country’s laws. They will also establish a cabinet subcommittee to supervise this initiative.

According to the Presidential Office, Dr. Mohamed is also organizing fundraising to help Palestinians with UNRWA. UNRWA refers to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East.

Moreover, the Maldivian President is also designating a special envoy to evaluate the needs of the affected Palestine people. He will also hold a national rally under the banner Falastheenaa Eku Dhivehin. It means “Maldivians in Solidarity with Palestine.”

The announcement of Maldives to ban Israelis came after an Israeli airstrike on the Rafah refugee camp. This fatal attack happened on May 26, 2024. Dr. Mohamed Muizzu condemned the deadliest Israeli attack that injured over 200 people and killed 45 people.

Dr. Mohamed Muizzu tweeted last week on it. He wrote he called for an immediate ceasefire. He demanded an end to violence and unhindered humanitarian access together with the government and people of Maldives.

When the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs learned about the ban, it advised Israeli citizens to consider leaving the country. This is because it will be difficult for them to get help if they are involved in some trouble regarding any matter.

The offensive and unbending strategy of Israel towards Gaza civilians in disguise of self-defense against Hamas has gained international fury. Israel has been continuously facing diplomatic isolation.

Israel faced a major blow when significant European countries, including Spain, Norway, and Ireland, recognized the official status of Palestine on May 28, 2024.

In another major development, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) chief prosecutor, Karim Khan, sought an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for crime offenses.
