Lamu Deputy Governor Raphael Munyua died in Nairobi Hospital

The Deputy Governor of Lamu County, Raphael Munyua Ndung’u died in Nairobi Hospital while receiving medical treatment. Kenyan President William Ruto mourned his death.

He expressed sadness at his passing while calling him a progressive leader who worked tirelessly for the welfare of the County people. He also expressed sympathy and prayers for the deceased’s family, friends, and people of Lamu County.

Deputy President of Kenya, H.E. Rigathi Gachagua also expressed deep condolences at receiving the death news of Deputy Governor Raphael. He praised him as a highly committed and development-oriented person.

He also acknowledged his efforts for the people of Lamu whom he served with great professionalism, dedication, and hard work.

On the other hand, Mobassa County Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir shared a press release on behalf of his ODM party. He stated they learned about the tragic passing of Raphael.

Governor Abdulswamad stated it was clear the people of Lamu County had an exceptionally keen servant in the guise of Raphael who did what was right for them. He expressed heartfelt and deep condolences to his family, Lamu Governor, and the county people.

According to County Secretary Ambassador Abbas Ali, Raphael had been in hospital for the past three months before his death. He was admitted to hospital following a severe headache which left him in a coma.

Eventually, medical professionals diagnosed him with brain tuberculosis (TB). This is the same disease that killed his mother earlier this year. Hence, the deputy governor of Lamu Raphael Munyua died due to the same brain TB disease in an unfortunate fate.

Raphael was a hardworking person who served as deputy governor to Lamu Governor Issa Abdalla Timamy since 2022. He worked best in his capacity in his serving years with persistent determination.

The late deputy governor had previously worked as a bank manager. He was also an executive member for health under former governor Fahim Twaha.
