Kolkata doctor rape-murder case caused massive protests in West Bengal

Massive women and doctors held massive protests at midnight in the aftermath of a trainee doctor rape-murder case at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata. Moumita Debanth was a victim trainee doctor.

Tens of thousands of women turned to the streets of West Bengal last night to register their protest against the tragedy that happened to a Kolkata doctor. Protests happened in Shyambazar,  Jadavpur, Kolkata, and Siliguri.

Several doctors also went on strike to demand justice for their colleagues. However, what we witnessed after the protests was more shocking when a mob attacked the protesting doctors at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital at night. They also vandalized the hospital property and reportedly destroyed the crime scene.

Despite this, Indian doctors have continued their strike today even on a day when Independence Day was supposed to be celebrated. All these major chaotic and shocking events turned out on the revelation of the autopsy report of the victim’s doctor.

The report showed the evidence of sexual assault and rape by multiple men. The victim doctor had also injuries on all over her body while demonstrating physical torture during rape.

The rape and murder of a trainee doctor happened last week on a night when she was on night duty at the emergency ward at the hospital. Her colleagues found her naked dead body at the podium while sustaining critical injuries the next morning.

A team from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted a seven-hour investigation at the incident hospital. They have arrested a prime suspect, Sonjoy Roy, the 33-year-old hospital volunteer worker.

His arrest came after the CBI found reports of his violent behavior against women. Moreover, CCTV footage showed him entering the emergency building of the hospital at 4 a.m. on incident night.

Sonjoy appeared to wear a Bluetooth device around his neck while entering the building. But when he left the building after 40 minutes, he had no device.

Law enforcement officials found that device near the victim doctor’s dead body. They came to know this device was paired with the cellphone of Sonjoy. This solid evidence linked Sonjoy to the rape-murder case of the Kolkata doctor.
